Tasting

Nose

Blackberry, cassis and blue fruit with floral lift, then espresso, cedarwood and a curl of toasty oak.

Palate

Medium- to full-bodied. Blueberry and black cherry compote through the middle, pie spice at the seams, velvet-like tannins holding the shape.

Finish

Long and savory — saddle leather, earth and tobacco, with firm muscular tannin that promises cellar time.

In the cellar

Twelve months, no new wood.

Fruit is drawn from three counties — Napa Valley for structure, Sonoma for lift, Mendocino for aromatic top notes — and fermented in small lots so each block can be judged on its own before blending.

Aging runs twelve months in 100% second-use French oak. That choice is deliberate: seasoned barrels give the wine oxygen and polish without laying vanilla and coconut over the top of it. What you taste is Cabernet, not cooperage.
